FULBRIGHT-Thailand Research Fund JUNIOR RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2006

GENERAL INFORMATION/PROVISIONS

The Thailand-U.S. Educational Foundation (Fulbright) in cooperation with the Thailand Research Fund(TRF)are pleased to announce the"Fulbright-Thailand Research Fund Junior Research Scholarship Program," which is aimed to develop the capabilities of Thai university staff members to gain six months of research experience in the United States as part of their doctoral dissertation requirements.



Up to seven(7) grants will be available for the 2006 academic year. Grants are intended to cover round-trip international airfare, monthly stipend for six months, books and supplies allowance, and an excess baggage allowance. The Foundation will assist the TUSEF sponsored grantees in placement in appropriate programs and universities in the U.S., and in obtaining financial aid from U.S. universities.



ELIGIBILITY

An applicant must:

1) Be a Thai citizen in good health. (individuals holding U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident cards (green cards), or dual (Thai and U.S.) citizenships are not eligible to apply.);

2) Be a university staff member at a tertiary level institution who is undertaking graduate work at the Ph.D. level in a Thai Universities;

3) Be recommended by his/her employer for consideration;

4) Demonstrate strong academic performance at the graduate level;

5) Have appropriate background to undertake the proposal they have outlined;

6) Have the concurrence of the university Ph.D. program in which he/she is enrolled;

7) Have a paper-based TOEFL score of 525 or above (or at least 195 from a computer-based TOEFL test) or have IELTS scores of above 6.5;

8) Obtain written confirmation from a U.S. professor/scientist at the host institution that s/he will supervise the research; and

9) Be able to fully participate in every activity organized by the Foundation, e.g. Predeparture Orientation Program which will be held during June.

The closing dates for submission of applications, proposals, curriculum vitae, academic credentials, a copy

of the TOEFL test score report and written confirmation from U.S. institutions are September 9, 2005.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Valuable preliminary steps include:

Planning Ahead - Advance planning will give the scholars as much time as possible to put together a thoughtful and compelling application. Application review and final selection are based upon the application submitted and accompanying materials.

Research Proposal - The doctoral research proposal should be approved by dissertation advisors prior to the submission of the final Fulbright application to the Fulbright Commission.

U.S. Affiliation -Host Institution must be a recognized institution with very high standards and which has an excellent reputation in the applicationโ€�s proposed field.

Application Guidelines:

Complete the application form carefully after reading instructions thoroughly.

Submit all the required supporting documents (proposals, curriculum vitae, academic credentials, a copy of the TOEFL test score report and written confirmation from U.S. institutions).

Make sure the completed application, the reference reports, project statement and supporting documents are submitted by the deadline.
