อันนี้ก็ผิดบ่อยค่ะ All เป็น พหูพจน์ กริยาไม่ต้องเติม s แต่ Every ถือเป็นเอกพจน์ค่ะ กริยาต้องเติม s ด้วยนะจ๊ะ

อยากรู้ว่า คำว่า "บุปผาหยกไร้ใจ" นั้น แปลว่าอะไร
คำว่าบุปผา เป็นชื่อดอกไม้ชนิดหนึ่งหรือเปล่า ถ้าใช่ก็เป็นดอก
บุปผาที่เป็นหยก แต่ที่งงมากก็คือ "ไร้ใจ" ทำไมถึง ไร้ใจ
ถ้าไร้ใจก็ไม่มีใจไม่ใช่หรือ แล้วจะดีหรือถ้าไม่มีใจ งงมากเลย
หรือเป็นชื่อของอะไรกันแน่

นี่เป๋นครั้งแรกที่เข้ามาในรายการนี้ เป็นครูสอนคณิตศาสตร์ แต่สนใจการนำภาษาอังกฤษมาใช้ในการสื่อสารทุกครั้งที่มีโอกาส โดยเฉพาะช่วงนี้ มีคอร์สให้ครูโรงเรียยนในฝัน(เฟื่อง)เป็น "smart teacher" ทางสพฐ.จัดให้คณุฝรั่ง(แท้ๆ)มาอบรมให้ รู้สึก happy มาก ถ้าใครมีเวลา ขอเชิญส่งเมล์ลมาคุยกันบ้าง ยินดีตอบทุกฉบับ

further vs. farther

farther ใช้ในกรณีที่พูดถึงระยะทางที่วัดได้ เช่น How much farther do we have to go? หรือ BangSaen is 40 km. farther.

further ใช้ในความหมายว่าเพิ่มขึ้น ไม่ใช่ในแง่ระยะทาง เช่น I have nothing further to add. หรือ It took two further phone calls before I could get my flight changed.

bought vs. brought

ทั้งสองเป็น past tense
bought = past tense ของ buy หรือ ซื้อ
brought = past tense ของ bring หรือ นำมา

I bought a pair of shoes yesterday and brought them home for my mother to admire.

ฉันซื้อรองเท้าเมื่อวาน แล้วเอากลับบ้านให้แม่ชม

lay vs. lie

สองคำนี้ใช้กันผิดบ่อยๆ เช่นบอกให้นอนลง แต่ใช้ "Please lay down." ผิด ต้องใช้ "Please lie down."

lie = นอน ส่วน lay = วาง

ไปปะปนกันตรงที่ past tense ของ lie คือ lay

lay laid laid
Please lay it on the floor.
She laid the book on the desk.
They had laid it on the floor.

lie lay lain
Go and lie down.
She went and lay down.
The body had lain in the field for many days.

หยกก็สับสนกับ 2 คำนี้มานานแล้ว จริงๆก็มีคำว่า lie ที่แปลว่าโกหกอีกตัวที่สับสนกันเข้าไปใหญ่ค่ะ

ได้ยินตั้งแต่ที่ Natalia Imbruglia ร้องไว้ในเพลง Torn,

The words lie and lying both mean นอน and not โกหก.

Lie and lay have many other meanings, e.g.

place something down flat - The cat laid its ears back.
produce eggs - All the hens are laying.
attribute - He laid the blame on me.
put effort into - The rowing team laid to their oars.
the way something lies - He inspected the lay of the land and decided that the castle could not be defended.
arranging things on a table - His wife laid the table for 6 people.

lay or laid is also used to mean sexual intercourse but is not considered polite

Other terms using these words:

lay low (making oneself less noticeable)

to be laid low (ill)

lay away (put something away for use later)

laid back (easy going)

lay it on thick (exaggerate)

lay before (to present) - The plan of action was laid before the committee.

lay off (terminate employment)

lay out (put something out for display) - All the sales items were laid out nicely.

lay aside (to give up or abandon, possibly temporarily) - He had to lay aside plans to build a new house because he was laid off.

lay over (brief stop)

To make everybody more confuse, there is "lie" as in "โกหก".
lie, lied, lied
How do you write lie-ing? You don\'t want to write "He is liing". So they make another rule to change "i" to "y" and you end up with "He is lying".

The first sentence, "There is nothing where he uses to lie" has to mean 'norn' not 'kohok' because it makes more sense that way. I think the sentence about her being shamed and lying naked on the floor supports the first sentence.

Very sad song.

Kun Jade: Last few days I have noticed a new item on the various answers. I am talking about the edit with the little icon next to it. I tried clicking it and ended up on a blank page. Does it mean that that item had been check or edited by the staff at Vchakarn or does it mean that it is possible for the author to go back and correct mistakes?

Khun Santi, As I noticed your membership status is now upgraded to vTeam Ka, a logo after your name indicating it. You have many privilages including ability to edit, hide or even delete messages that you think should be edited, hidden or deleted. They trusted vTeam's judgement about this (vTeam = selected members (like you, Aj Nirund) and working team (like me). I don't know whether that Article's or Reply's owner is also able to edit their messages or not since my status is also vTeam. If you really want to know I can ask.

"Torn" was quite famous in my school days. At that time I don't know that it is this sad, though.

accept = รับด้วยความเต็มใจ - I accept your invitation with pleasure. ส่วน except = ยกเว้น - Everyone will be going except you.

adapt/adopt
adapt = ดัดแปลงให้เข้าแบบ - He was unable to adapt himself to Thai society. ส่วน adopt = ทำให้เป็นของตัวเอง - The school adopted the new curriculum. We adopted a small child.

affect/effect
affect = ทำให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลง - The increase in price of crude oil affected the economy. ส่วน effect = ผลลัพท์ The inflation is the effect of the increase in price of crude oil.

allude/elude
allude = พากพิงถึง - In his speech, he alluded to the problems that he had encountered. ส่วน elude = หลีกเลี่ยงหรือหนีจาก - He was able to elude the police for a while.

amount/number
amount = ปริมาณที่วัดได้ - He has a small amount of money in reserve. ส่วน number คือจำนวนที่นับได้ - He has only a small number of relatives.

appraise/apprise
appraise = ประมาณหรือคาดคะเน - The house was appraised at 1 million baht. ส่วน apprise = บอกแจ้ง = When apprised of the appraisal, she was quite surprised.

any/either
any ใช้ในกรณีที่มีอะไรให้เลือกสามอย่างขึ้นไป - There are many dresses here. You can have any dress you want. ส่วน either ใช้ในกรณีที่ให้เลือกเอาหนึ่งในสอง - I have two cakes here. You can have either one.

award/reward ไทยแปลว่ารางวัลทั้งสองคำ แต่ award ใช้กับรางวัลที่ได้จากการตัดสินหรือการประกวด - His dog was awarded first prize. ส่วน reward ได้รางวัลเป็นการตอบแทนหรือสมนาคุณ - I found his wallet and he rewarded me by giving me 500 baht.

childish/childlike
childish = ไม่รู้จักโต His actions were childish.
childlike = เป็นแบบเด็ก หรือ ไร้เดียงสา He is still childlike in his innocence.

climactic/climatic

สวัสดีค่ะ คุณ สันติ หนูอยากเปิดร้านอินเตอร์เน็ต ในอนาคต หนูแต่ตอนนี้หนูเรียน marketing หนูจะย้ายไปเรียนแผนก computer ได้ใหมค่ะ แต่แฟนของหนูเค้าอยากให้หนูเรียนการใรงแรมค่ะ เพราะเค้าอยากจะเปิดโรงแรมเล็ก ๆ ที่พัทยา หนูจะทำอย่างไรดีค่ะ หรือว่าไม่ต้องทำอะไรเลย เรียน marketing เหมือนเดิม ขอบคุณค่ะ
