A Training Course in Ecological Research Methods
24 April - 21 May 2006 Walailak University and the Biodiversity Research and Training Program (BRT) are seeking students to participate in a field course on ecological research methods, 24 April - 21 May, 2006, at Walailak University. The course will focus on the process of scientific inquiry: 1) asking interesting and valuable ecological questions 2) identifying the data needed to answer them 3) designing appropriate methods and conducting a field study 4) analyzing and interpreting results 5) reporting results in a scientific paper Students will learn basic methods for studying plant and animal populations in the wild. Instructors: Santa Barbara, USA), Dr. Chatchai Ngamriabsakul (Walailak University), Dr. Anchana Prathep (Prince of Songkla University), and Dr. George Gale and Dr. Tommaso Savini (King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi). Venue: place in forest at Khao Nan National Park and in near-shore marine habitat at Khanom National Park. Language of course: Qualifications: BOTH WOMEN AND MEN ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. Applicants should be entering an MSc. program in ecology in June, 2006 at any Thai university. They should have undergraduate coursework in ecology and be interested in research in either forest or marine ecosystems.
